BACKGROUND
The string inverter market is expanding and PV systems are becoming more complex. In order to improve the safety of PV systems and the stability of the public power grid, each region puts forward higher requirements for local PV systems and requires appropriate safety measures. For example:North America requires PV systems to have a Rapid Shutdown (RSD) function, Europe requires systems to have a remote shutdown function, for India, the Emergency Power off function is necessary.
In addition, for responding to the changes of power grid, for example, in Netherlands, the grid could have the negative tariff. GoodWe also provide the remote restart/stop function for customers to cope with the negative price period of the grid.
This article would explain the different GoodWe solutions for detail.
GoodWe Solution
01: RSD (Rapid Shutdown)
After a fire hazard occurs in the power plant, the system will still produce a high voltage of hundreds or even thousands of volts, which will threaten the lives of firefighters if they rush to rescue them. With the module-level rapid shutdown function, firefighters can quickly cut the connection between PV modules and rescue the power plant.
The typical system of Rapid Shutdown is as shown in figure 1.
Figure 1 Diagram of Rapid Shutdown
The whole RSD system consists of inverter, PV module, receiver and transmitter etc. When the system is power on, the transmitter starts working. It keeps sending continuous signal to receiver through power line communication (PLC). Energy will be exported from modules constantly when receiver keeps having signal from transmitter. But if the receiver lose the alive signal from system, every module will stop working immediately and the voltage of the PV string would be decreased to less than 30V, thereby enabling module-level shutdown.
GoodWe RSD 2.0 solution also consists of transmitter (part of transmitters are integrated into inverters) and receiver, the detail information is as following:
Figure 2: Three different transmitters
The external waterproof box allows customer to use transmitter without replacing the inverter. It is also compatible with other brands of inverters and receivers.
GTP-F1L-20 with one core is used for single-phase inverters with grid voltage between 85V-264V.
GTP-F2M-20 with two cores is used for three-phase inverters with grid voltage between 180V-550V.
PCBA means the transmitter function is integrated into the inverter (Except North America).
Built-in is for North America only that the transmitter is installed into the inverter’s bottom box.
The transmitter types are shown in table 1:
Table 1: Transmitter types
Figure 3: Receiver appearance
Single module type means only one PV panel is allowed to be connected.
Dual module type means two PV panels are allowed to be connected.
Table 2: Receiver types
The receiver capability is as following:
GR-A1F-20 can be connected to one PV panel and the voltage of the string should be lower than 1100V.
GR-B1F-20 can be connected to one PV panel and the voltage of the string should be lower than 1500V.
GR-A2F-20 can be connected to two PV panels and the voltage of the string should be lower than 1100V.
GR-B2F-20 can be connected to two PV panels and the voltage of the string should be lower than 1500V.
For different types of transmitter and receiver, GoodWe offers the corresponding wiring methods for customer.
External waterproof box + Single module receiver
Built-in + Single module receiver
[1] Install an external waterproof box and prepare an external initiator like breaker or stop button by customers if the inverter is not integrated with an internal transmitter.
In addition, the Preliminary Compatibility with GW portfolio information is as following:
